About the orchestra

The orchestra was founded in 1987 and is run by the players themselves. Its objective is to provide more professional quality concerts in central Berkshire and to make better use of the extraordinary pool of talent there is in the area.

Over the past 21 years, WFS has performed many different works, ranging from Baroque to Contemporary. Often their concerts combine unusual, seldom-heard pieces with the best-loved classics. Several concerts have also featured concertos with members of the orchestra as soloist.

In addition to putting on its own concerts, the orchestra often performs with choral societies.
Works performed recently with choral societies include large oratorios such as Mendelssohn Elijah, Handel Messiah and Elgar Gerontius.
